The Simple Truth – Nature’s Lesson

Geoffrey Larmer is a small town civil litigation lawyer who lives on the south shore of Trout Lake in the hamlet of Corbeil with his loving partner, Angela, and their two aloof waterdogs, Juno and Emmett.  He has no expertise in anything of importance.  He enjoys watching human evolution with all its faults and frailties. He loves skim milk  cappuccinos with cinnamon, watching action movies and reading Calvin & Hobbes.

On the south shore, the wind is bending the tree tops against the blue sky as the sun beats down hard.  The snow is retreating to the shadows.  People are breathing deeper and taking longer to exhale.

Spring is knocking at the door.

And there is pause.  And reflection.  And an acknowledgment that this seasonal change is different because of where we have been.

Tremendous loss juxtaposed against the backdrop of renewal.  Nature is a powerful force.  Humanity has always struggled to learn her lessons.  She can be cruel and efficient.  We are expected to pay attention.

Wealth, power and politics are not her concern.

So, what lessons have we learned?

Life is a gift.  Treasure it.  Take only what you need for your journey.

Live in harmony with your surroundings.  Coexistence is balance.  Balance stimulates growth.

This is the simple truth.

We must learn to inoculate against greed and indifference.  There may be no vaccine for her next lesson.
