A Center for Collaborative Mental Health Care

Angela Larmer, Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), BScN, RN, MACP, Master Accelerated Resolution Therapist (ART)

Trauma-informed counseling for individuals, couples and groups in-person in North Bay or virtually throughout Ontario.

About Angela

I am a trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally responsive psychotherapist, as well as a Registered Nurse with over 25 years of experience in supporting individuals and couples on their health and wellness journeys.

One type of therapy I practice is Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a brief, evidence-based approach that helps resolve psychological trauma. ART is effective in reducing symptoms related to stress, trauma, and distressing experiences by changing how the mind processes stressful images, leading to positive changes in daily life.

In our work together, we will create a personalized plan to deepen your self-connection, build confidence, and foster a greater sense of self-leadership. Our sessions will focus on processing emotions, healing past wounds, and addressing the barriers that prevent you from living the life you desire. Using techniques such as Accelerated Resolution Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Compassionate Inquiry, Mindfulness and connection to somatic experiences, I will support you in reconnecting with your body, cultivating presence, and exploring sensations and emotions. Together, we will uncover and heal subconscious patterns from past experiences rather than suppressing them, making way for living life with greater ease.

I provide therapy for individuals, couples, and groups both in-person in North Bay, Ontario, and virtually across the province.

Integrative Trauma-Informed, Person-Centered Therapy Practiced at The Rooted Heart

  • ART: Accelerated Resolution Therapy

A therapeutic technique designed to help people overcome the stress associated with troubling memories. Combining eye movements and imagery, ART offers a swift alternative to traditional therapy methods, with an impressive track record for treating conditions like PTSD, anxiety, and depression.

  • CI: Compassionate Inquiry

Compassionate Inquiry is an approach, which reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world. This approach helps to recognize the unconscious dynamics that run our lives and learn how to liberate ourselves from them.

  • The Gottman Method

The Gottman Method is an approach to couples therapy that includes a thorough assessment of the couple’s relationship, and integrates research-based interventions to disarm conflicting verbal communication; increase intimacy, respect, and affection; remove barriers that create a feeling of stagnancy; and create a heightened sense of empathy and understanding within the context of the relationship.

  • Trauma Informed CBT: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focuses on identifying and modifying thought patterns and behaviors to alleviate distress. Trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy addresses the mental health needs of children, adolescents, and families suffering from the destructive effects of early trauma.

  • Somatic Therapy

Somatic Therapy utilizes the mind-body connection to overcome challenges through bodily sensations and movements.

  • MBT: Mindfulness Based Therapy

Mindfullness Based Therapy helps you become aware of your thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations in the present.

  • Existential Therapy

Existential Therapy focuses on life's meaning, actualizing values, and individual freedom in facing existential challenges.

  • IFS: Internal Family Systems

IFS is a transformative psychotherapy that conceives every human being as a system of protective and wounded inner parts, all led by a core Self. Just like members of a family, these inner parts play distinct roles within us. The Self, which remains undamaged, knows how to heal.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a mindfulness-based therapeutic approach that encourages individuals to embrace their thoughts and emotions rather than fighting or avoiding them. ACT focuses on developing psychological flexibility, helping individuals to accept their experiences, commit to values-driven actions, and reduce the impact of unhelpful thoughts. By combining acceptance strategies with behavioral commitment, ACT empowers people to lead more fulfilling lives by focusing on what truly matters to them, even in the presence of challenging feelings or circumstances.

Now offering Collaborative Care between your Therapist, Primary Care Practitioner, and a Psychiatrist

The Importance of Collaborative Mental Health Care

Accessing Mental Health Services can be challenging, especially with long wait times for Psychiatric Care in many parts of Ontario. This is where Collaborative Care that includes involving a Psychiatrist to our Psychotherapy Goals can help. Your Primary Care Provider as well becomes crucial to achieving Mental Health and Wellness.

In my private clinic, I have access to the Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Clinic (PMVC), to help bridge these gaps. Watch the video above to see how PMVC might be an important part of your Healing Journey.

Reach out below to see if working with me is a good fit!
